From November 20, the Houston Botanic Garden turns its 132 acres along Sims Bayou into Radiant Nature, a Chinese lantern festival of larger-than-life installations, for 53 evenings through February 21. It runs mostly Friday through Sunday, entry is by half-hour time slot, and the garden warns it cannot guarantee tickets on the day. For the daytime half, the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center on the edge of Memorial Park is free to walk, with five miles of trails. Here is how they fit together, what they cost, and a table on either side of the lanterns.
We run Botanical Garden Near Me, a directory of public gardens and arboretums across the United States, and we are a guest here. Top of Houston asked for the gardens. They supplied the restaurants.
The plan, in order
Do the Arboretum in daylight: its grounds are open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. from November through February, and the lot fills fast on weekends, so a weekday or early start helps. Then drive southeast to the Botanic Garden for a Radiant Nature entry time. Timed entries start at 6 p.m. every half hour, the last entry is 9 p.m., and the garden closes at 10 p.m. no matter when you arrived. Check the night before you plan: the festival is mostly Friday to Sunday, and it is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve.
Radiant Nature
The Houston Botanic Garden is at One Botanic Lane, on what was once a public golf course, with Global, Culinary, Stormwater Wetlands and Coastal Prairie gardens. Radiant Nature runs from November 20, 2026 to February 21, 2027, on 53 evenings, mostly Friday through Sunday, plus extra Thursdays in December and weeknights around Thanksgiving and Christmas. It is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and February 14. Adults are $26.50 and children 3 to 15 are $24.50; a new late-entry ticket for arrival after 8:30 p.m. is $24.50. Members get two free tickets for opening weekend and $2 off after that. On-site parking is $12 more, free for members. By day the garden is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with last entry at 4:30; adults are $12, children 3 to 17, students, seniors and military $8, parking is free, and the garden is cashless. It is closed Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
Houston Arboretum and Nature Center

The Arboretum, at 4501 Woodway Drive on the western edge of Memorial Park, is a 155-acre nonprofit nature sanctuary with five miles of trails through native prairie, savanna, wetland, woodland and riparian habitat; two miles of trail are accessible, along with the nature center building. Entry to the trails and the nature center is free. Parking is $6.50, free on Thursdays and on the second Sunday of each month. From November to February the grounds are open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the nature center 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parking is very limited and fills quickly on weekends.
